The Advancement of Handheld Devices

The emergence of cellular devices has been evident in our lives today.  As we can see, there are always new and improved devices constantly being released by many companies such as Apple and Samsung.  As far back as I can remember, the luxury phones were flip phones and it was uncommon for everyone to hold such a device. Now, society has changed and has rapidly changed our lives.  Most people now own a phone and we have become so used to having such a device with us daily that it has become part of our lives. Moreover, these cell phones have made us extremely mobile, as we can walk around and communicate with the desired person or people anywhere we please. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to only make phone calls from home or a payphone? That would be frustrating.  As Campbell and Park discussed in their paper, “Like the television in the 1950s and the Internet in the 1990s, mobile telephony has emerged as one of the defining communication technologies of our time.”

Many of us rely on these devices. For business purposes for instance, it allows us to store important dates and appointments. These phones also notify us of these dates so that it is impossible to forget. This is quite the handy tool as there is so much going on in our lives that it is easy to forget.

Phones originally served the purpose of calling someone such as a friend or family member. Now, a cell phone such as the iPhone provides plenty of other features. For instance, this device allows us to install apps that serve a particular purpose.  We can play games, check our bank accounts, take pictures or watch movies. Googlin explores the feature of apps and the App Store.  He states that this feature brings computer features into a mobile device, and it is quite affordable. In addition, the iPhone also introduced the internet feature, which advanced the world of mobile devices. In the palm of your hand, you can access the internet and the service it provides.  This makes it quite handy to check your e-mails and send some of your own if you so desire.

The evolution of these cell phones has changed our lives drastically. The latest iPhone 5 has so many features that serve our daily needs that we can’t possibly ask for anything more in such a small device. In addition, it has so many upgrades from previous versions. This makes you wonder what the later versions will entail.
